Dozens of people took to the streets of the capital this Saturday June 25 to carry out a march for sexual diversity and gender identity in Guatemala.

Galilea Monroy, representative of the Multicultural Network of Trans Women, explained that the parade seeks to demand equal treatment and claim the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans, transvestites, intersex, queer and other identities) in the country.

"We seek to tell the State of Guatemala that we exist, resist and persist," she mentioned.

The march began after noon in the Plaza de la República, located in zone 4. During the tour, the protesters performed theatrical performances, commemorative dances and other artistic expressions that finally concentrated in the Plaza de la Constitución, in zone 1 .

The event was convened by 28 LGBTIQ+ groups nationwide. According to the organizers, the participation was thousands of people.

This is the twentieth time that this parade has been held in the country. It is part of the activities to commemorate the International LGBTIQ+ Pride Day, which is celebrated on June 28 of each year.
