Guatemala gets 6 new medals at the Bolivarian Games of Valledupar 2022

This Sunday was a day of podiums for the Guatemalan delegation participating in the XIX Bolivarian Games of Valledupar, Colombia 2022.


Guatemala won 6 new medals in 2 sports: four in karate and two in bowling.


The first to see activity were Marvin León and Diego Aguilar, who won a bronze in the male bowling doubles category. The duo managed to advance to the semifinals of the competition that took place at the Bowling Megamall Park.


It was at that stage that the Guatemalan couple lost 1-2 to the Venezuelan duo made up of Luis Rovaina and Rogelio Felice, who would ultimately end up with the gold medal.


The silver went to the Peruvians Aldo Guibu Kawahara and Víctor Ricardo Tateishi Takechi, while the other bronze went to the Colombians Jaime Gómez and Jaime González.


In the women's doubles, Sofía Granda and Ana Morales scored a bronze after losing to Laura Plazas and María Rodríguez from Colombia 0-2. The couple added the tenth medal for the Guatemalan delegation.


In karate it was where Guatemala harvested most of the medals this Sunday.

First, Brandon Ramírez, 28 years old, achieved a bronze in the -84kg kumite. His rival in the semifinals was the Dominican Anderson Soriano who beat him 10-1.


The gold medal went to José Acevedo from Ecuador, the silver went to Soriano himself and the other bronze went to Salvadoran Jorge Merino.


Later it was time for Luisa Palencia, who advanced to the final of the -68kg kumite where she faced Colombian Wendy Mosquera.


Palencia kept the silver after falling by a score of 2-1 against Mosquera. In the semifinals, the Guatemalan defeated Sol Cabrera (PER) with a score of 4-0.

The bronzes went to Sol Cabrera and Marianth Cuervo from Peru and Venezuela respectively.


The eighth medal for Guatemala in the Valledupar Games was the silver that came thanks to Pedropablo de la Roca, the 20-year-old karate fighter fell in the kumite -60kg final against Juan Fernadez (COL), with a score of 1-0.


In the semifinals the Rock had defeated Roberto Payares from Panama.

Enrique Villalón from Chile and Roberto Payares took the bronzes.


Allan Maldonado was in charge of winning the ninth medal for Guatemala, his conquest was a silver in kumite -75kg after falling in the final against Colombian Juan Landazuri.

Maldonado had earned the right to fight for gold when he defeated Matías Rodríguez of Chile in the semifinals with a score of 3-1.

The bronzes in the -75kg category went to Rodríguez and Carlos Herrera from the Dominican Republic.
